I enjoyed it, but not with any urgency.

It perhaps shouldn’t be altogether surprising that when I spotted Predator’s Gold at the library and took it home, I let it sit on the shelf for a bit. For a longish bit. Long enough for my Best Reader to read it, enjoy it and recommend it. Long enough to have to renew it. Twice.

When at last I finally, almost grudgingly commenced to read the thing, though, I zipped through it in about a day and a half. Just goes to show.

For those who enjoyed Mortal Engines, by the way, I’ll warn that unlike that fine book, Predator’s Gold doesn’t have a satisfying finish. It’s not a cliffhanger, quite, but there are three separate plotlines that Mr. Reeves clearly started in this book to continue in the third one. It’s a fair thing to do in a series, that is, finish one plot line but leave others going, but I prefer the Bujold strategy, myself.

Tolerabimus quod tolerare debemus,
-Vardibidian.

A couple of months ago (when I was young) I wrote that I found Mortal Engines very put-down-able, in the sense that I kept putting it down and not getting to it for a day or three.
