Unless I am leaving them off the blog, for some reason. Seems unlikely. No, I suspect that it seems as if I read two or three Terry Pratchett books a year, when in fact I don’t. I wonder why that is.

Anyway, I did pick up Monstrous Regiment, and I enjoyed it more than I expected to. It’s one of the ones that introduces new characters in a new setting; I prefer those to the Watch or Wizard ones. Some of the Watch characters do make a (fairly tedious) appearance, but that’s all minor. Most of our characters are new, and I like them. Particularly Sgt. Jackrum, of course, but the whole crew.

It’s a bit tricky, these days, reading light comedy about war, though. I’m able to do it, but it takes an effort of will not to be offended, or depressed, or angry. I can’t imagine what it would be like trying to read this sort of thing during a war that was actually being fought in my country. I mean, obviously, that’s one of the least of the things I can’t imagine about life during wartime, but I do wonder about it.

Tolerabimus quod tolerare debemus,
-Vardibidian.

[194

post-11000","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-book-report
["GET
