This one was The Warrior’s Apprentice; I enjoyed it about as much as I expected to, neither more nor less.

Well, and perhaps a bit of both. For some reason, I was particularly tickled by the negotiation between the representative of the losing side of a war with Miles, who is pretending to represent a mercenary outfit. They are bargaining with money that doesn’t exist and a fleet that doesn’t exist, and Miles knows it, but he needs the money. That doesn’t exist. Eventually, the money does exist, but is worthless. He only gets paid by one side, though, which is pretty weak for the Dendarii.

On the other hand, there were chunks that I kinda flipped through. The combat did nothing for me, this time through, I wasn’t moved by the Sergeant’s death or by the atrocities he commits. He was just the Sergeant, doomed and useful. Other times through, I’ve liked those bits, but this time not so much; I assume it had something to do with the water being so hot.

Tolerabimus quod tolerare debemus,
-Vardibidian.

In Which Your Humble Blogger manages to avoid that whole falling asleep and dropping the book in the water thing.

[194

post-11013","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-book-report
["GET
