This is an omnibus edition of <I>Shards of Honor<\/I> and <I>Barrayar<\/I>, which were written some five years (and three or four books) apart, but I read them for the first time as one book, as they are printed here. It has become one of my top five (or so) comfort books.\nOh, heck, I&#8217;m not going to actually review this book; I like it too much. So, instead, here are Vardibidian&#8217;s comfort books, read in the tub or in bed, better for Vardibidian than potato chips or ice cream.\n<ul><li> Lois McMaster Bujold, <I><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baen.com\/chapters\/W200307\/0671578286.htm?blurb\"> Cordelia's Honor<\/a><\/I>; but you knew that.\n<li>Dick Francis, <I><a href=\"http:\/\/www.alibris.com\/search\/search.cfm?qwork=2996056&amp;matches=617&amp;qsort=r\">Hot Money<\/a><\/I>; I&#8217;m putting this one on the list over <I><a href=\"http:\/\/www.penguinputnam.com\/Book\/BookFrame\/0,1007,,00.html?id=051513113X\">The Edge<\/a><\/I>, although in truth I&#8217;ll just be thinking &#8216;a Dick Francis&#8217;.\n<li>Samuel Shellabarger, <I><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbnbooks.com\/Catalog\/SingleBook.shtml?command=Search&amp;db=^\/DB\/NBN\/NBN.db&amp;eqSKUdatarq=1882593642\">Prince of Foxes<\/a><\/i>; no excuses, it&#8217;s just a comfort book.\n<li>Mary Renault, <I><a href=\"http:\/\/www.randomhouse.com\/catalog\/display.pperl?0394751051\">The Mask of Apollo<\/a><\/i>; an old friend.\n<li>Dorothy L. Sayers, <I><a href=\"http:\/\/www.harpercollins.com\/catalog\/book_xml.asp?isbn=0061043516\">Busman&#8217;s Honeymoon<\/a><\/i>; I pretty much read them all once a year or so, but this is the comfort one.\n<li>P.G. Wodehouse, <I><a href=\"http:\/\/www.randomhouse.com\/catalog\/display.pperl?0394720261\">Leave it to Psmith<\/a><\/I>; a perfect novel.\n<\/ul>\n\nI have other books that I like just as much, but, you know, <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.simonsays.com\/content\/content.cfm?sid=33&amp;pid=410504\">Catch-22<\/a><\/i> isn't technically comforting.\n\n<p>Redintegro Iraq,<br>-Vardibidian.\n<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the umpteenth time, Your Humble Blogger has read Cordelia&#8217;s Honor (Riverdale: Baen 1996) by Lois McMaster Bujold.
