That&#8217;s not a big deal, right? Sure, they send confidential patient information over the internet, but it&#8217;s to a reputable company, right? So, it&#8217;s not terribly irresponsible. Right?\n<p>Of course, that reputable company sends the transcription to somebody else. It&#8217;s not clear from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?f=\/c\/a\/2004\/03\/28\/OFFSHORE.TMP\">this story<\/a> whether UCSF knew that their outsourced confidential job was being subcontracted, but it seems clear that they didn&#8217;t get involved in checking the responsibility of the subcontractor in Florida.\n<p>Who sent the stuff to a fellow in Texas.\n<p>Who sent the stuff to a woman in Pakistan.\n<p>Who did most of it herself, but hired a couple of assistants, as well.\n<p>When the woman in Pakistan stopped getting paid, she threatened to release the confidential data, which I think was actually fairly reasonable, or at least predictable.\n<p>Oh, and by the way, the fellow in Texas may not actually exist.\n<p>The problem here is not globalization.\n<p>Redintegro Iraq,<br>-Vardibidian.\n<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OK, so UCSF outsources its medical transcription business.
