If I should need to name, O Western World, your powerfulest scene and show,
\r\n'Twould not be you, Niagara\u2014nor you, ye limitless prairies\u2014nor your huge rifts of canyons, Colorado,
\r\nNor you, Yosemite\u2014nor Yellowstone, with all its spasmic geyser-loops ascending to the skies, appearing and disappearing,
\r\nNor Oregon's white cones\u2014nor Huron's belt of mighty lakes\u2014nor Mississippi's stream:
\r\n\u2014This seething hemisphere's humanity, as now, I'd name\u2014the still small voice vibrating\u2014America's choosing day,

\r\nYet more than all Rome's wars of old, or modern Napoleon's:) the peaceful choice of all,
\r\nOr good or ill humanity\u2014welcoming the darker odds, the dross:
\r\n\u2014Foams and ferments the wine? it serves to purify\u2014while the heart pants, life glows:
\r\nThese stormy gusts and winds waft precious ships,
\r\nSwell'd Washington's, Jefferson's, Lincoln's sails.
