{"id":20451,"date":"2021-04-16T12:22:52","date_gmt":"2021-04-16T17:22:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/vardibidian\/?p=20451"},"modified":"2021-04-16T12:22:52","modified_gmt":"2021-04-16T17:22:52","slug":"refusing-refuge-to-our-shame-and-our-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/vardibidian\/2021\/04\/16\/refusing-refuge-to-our-shame-and-our-loss\/","title":{"rendered":"Refusing Refuge, to our shame and our loss"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>I feel like I need to go on record as saying that, if it stands, this decision by Our Only President to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/04\/16\/us\/biden-refugees-cap.html?smtyp=cur&amp;smid=tw-nytimes\">continue the cap on refugee welcome at 15,000<\/a> is profoundly wrong and indeed disgraceful.\r\n<p>We could, as a country, accommodate ten times that number\u2014and even the suggestion that we <i>could accommodate<\/i> 150,000 is a terrible way of thinking about it. We would, as a country, be <i>improved<\/i> by a hundred and fifty thousand refugees moving to our nation every year. Vastly improved, I would think. We should <i>accommodate<\/i> as many as we possibly can, or more accurately we should <i>give refuge<\/I> to as many as we can, even if it were to our nation\u2019s detriment, a drain on our resources without an upside other than using our wealth to some purpose.
