There wasn’t some sort of press conference or speech that everyone just somehow failed to notice. No, they have absolutely determined that he was in the dining room of the White House, watching Fox News, and not doing any of the things that everybody in the entire country would have known immediately if he had done them.

To be fair—and I don’t feel the need to be particularly fair—what the Committee did do, in what may be the last prime-time slot available to it, was underline the point that the President of the United States was acting, in this, against the advice, the desires and the interests of the Republican Party. To clarify that, at least on the afternoon of January Sixth, he was on his own. “The case against Donald Trump in these hearings is not made by witnesses who were his political enemies. It is instead a series of concessions by Donald Trump’s own appointees, his own friends, his own campaign officials, people who worked for him for years, and his own family.” That’s Representative Cheney, herself of course a Republican and a Conservative.

Perhaps the Committee will succeed in forcing a wedge between Conservatives and the MAGA movement. At the moment, it doesn’t appear to be doing much along those lines, but sometimes these things work slowly.

Tolerabimus quod tolerare debemus,
-Vardibidian.

[204

post-20788","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-politics
["GET
