So when I had to grab a book off the shelf to save from the packing box and keep to hand, that was an obvious choice. And then I read it.\nI had remembered the torture scene as taking up the last third of the book, but actually it&#8217;s only two chapters. It&#8217;s a less disturbing book than I remember, although that could be the result of (a) more times through making it familiar, and (b) knowing that Mark will become at least as sane as he is in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baen.com\/chapters\/W200005\/0671578855.htm?blurb\">A Civil Campaign<\/a>.
