The distinctions and categorizations I'm making are not clear-cut; the real criterion I'm using to determine whether an item goes on the previous list or this one is that the following are items I don't have much to say about.<\/p>\n<dl>\n<dt>\"add\" for \"ad\"<\/dt>\n<dd>Common typo: An advertisement is an \"ad,\" not an \"add.\"<\/dd>\n<dt>\"ammendment\" for \"amendment\"<\/dt>\n<dd>Another common typo\/misspelling.<\/dd>\n<dt>\"causality\" for \"casualty\"<\/dt>\n<dd>Another common typo, in sentences like * \"He was a causality of war.\"<\/dd>\n<dt>\"diffuse\" for \"defuse\"<\/dt>\n<dd>I keep seeing sentences like * \"She diffused the bomb.\"<\/dd>\n<dt>\"dilemna\" for \"dilemma\"<\/dt>\n<dd>Another common typo\/misspelling.<\/dd>\n<dt>\"form\" for \"from\"<\/dt>\n<dd>A common typo; thanks to Michelle for mentioning this in a comment a couple years ago.<\/dd>\n<dt>\"formerly\" for \"formally\"<\/dt>\n<dd>A very common typo\/misspelling: * \"At the courthouse, he was formerly charged with arson.\"<\/dd>\n<dt>\"Hemmingway\" for \"Hemingway\"<\/dt>\n<dd>The man's name has only one M.<\/dd>\n<dt>\"laywer\" for \"lawyer\"<\/dt>\n<dd>Common typo.<\/dd>\n<dt>\"loose\" for \"lose\"<\/dt>\n<dd>Very common misspelling.<\/dd>\n<dt>\"make due\" for \"make do\"<\/dt>\n<dd>Another common typo\/misspelling. (Or maybe it's an <a href=\"http:\/\/eggcorns.lascribe.net\/english\/342\/due\/\">eggcorn<\/a>?)<\/dd>\n<dt>\"solider\" for \"soldier\"<\/dt>\n<dd>Very common typo, as I mentioned in an entry on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2007\/08\/23\/3995.html\">smarter spellcheckers<\/a> a few months back.<\/dd>\n<dt>\"taunt\" for \"taut\"<\/dt>\n<dd>I think this one's just a typo, as in * \"She held the line taunt.\" (See also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2003\/02\/08\/874.html\">taught\/taut<\/a>.)<\/dd>\n<dt>\"too\" for \"to\"<\/dt>\n<dd>Typo.
