{"id":13567,"date":"2011-01-16T10:21:50","date_gmt":"2011-01-16T18:21:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/neology\/2011\/01\/16\/cables.html"},"modified":"2011-01-16T10:21:50","modified_gmt":"2011-01-16T18:21:50","slug":"cables","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/words\/2011\/01\/16\/cables\/","title":{"rendered":"cables"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>There's a stylistic convention in newspaper headlines that I never got the hang of: paraphrasing something someone said, then a colon, then an indication of whoever it was that said it.<\/p>\n<p>This morning, I saw this Reuters headline:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSTRE70F19Y20110116\">Iran searching for nuclear bomb materials: cables<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And I thought, huh, who'd have thought that nuclear bombs would require some kind of hard-to-find cables?
