Heinlein, possibly written around 1980, that used the word <i>happy-making<\/i>. I think I only started to see that word used in the last twenty years or so, so I got curious about when it come into use. My dictionary was silent on the matter, but Google Books demonstrates, rather to my surprise, that it\u2019s been in use since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?lr=lang_en&tbs=cdr%3A1%2Ccd_min%3A1835%2Ccd_max%3A1894%2Clr%3Alang_1en&tbm=bks&ei=PE7-WsnqIOWX0wKX7K0w&q=%22happy-making%22&oq=%22happy-making%22&gs_l=psy-ab.3...53009.54463.0.55251.3.3.0.0.0.0.241.358.2j0j1.3.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..0.0.0....0.DQmzNIK80Tc\">the 1840s or earlier<\/a>. In particular, it\u2019s listed in John Boag\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=4XkPAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA629&dq=%22happy-making%22&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjp2_3Ero7bAhWIi1QKHa5xBeMQ6AEIOjAD#v=onepage&q=%22happy-making%22&f=false\"><cite>Popular and Complete English Dictionary<\/cite><\/a>, published in 1848.
