Working, as I do, at the circulation counter of an academic library, I frequently have students come to the desk and ask if we have a particular text. Today, I have been repeatedly asked \u201cDo you have Sexuality Now<\/cite><\/a>?\u201d I have so far manfully refrained from replying \u201cNot just at the moment, no, but ask me again after work.\u201d I have also often been asked \u201cDo you have Gendered Lives<\/cite><\/a>?\u201d While in truth I have had only one life, it has indeed been gendered, occasionally to my irritation. This is presumably because we have The Gendered Society<\/cite><\/a>.\r\n

My personal favorite is being asked \u201cDo you have Psychology in Your Life<\/cite><\/a>?\u201d Yes. Yes, I do have psychology in my life, thank you for asking. On the other hand, being asked if I have Abnormal Psychology<\/cite><\/a> is a trickier proposition. Do I have Connections<\/cite><\/a>? Well, I know a few people. Do I have Street Justice<\/cite><\/a>? Definitely not. Do I have Rules for Radicals<\/cite><\/a>? No, the same rules apply to everyone.\r\n

Do I have College Study Skills<\/cite><\/a>? Alas, no. Do I have Organic Chemistry (with Biological Applications)<\/cite><\/a>? It seems likely. Do I have Personal Nutrition<\/cite><\/a>? Yes, very.\r\n

The real fun comes in the English department, though. Do you have White Teeth<\/cite><\/a>? Do you have Stitches<\/cite><\/a>? Do you have Monsters<\/cite><\/a>? Do you have Room<\/cite><\/a>? Do you have Plenty<\/cite><\/a>? Do you have The Plague<\/cite><\/a>?\r\n
