{"id":18493,"date":"2022-12-05T18:03:39","date_gmt":"2022-12-06T02:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/words\/?p=18493"},"modified":"2022-12-05T18:09:06","modified_gmt":"2022-12-06T02:09:06","slug":"mysterious-warbling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kith.org\/words\/2022\/12\/05\/mysterious-warbling\/","title":{"rendered":"Mysterious Warbling"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>The TV show <cite>1899<\/cite> is one of those shows where everything is Mysterious.<\/p>\r\n<p>In particular, the music and sounds effects are very very Mysterious.<\/p>\r\n<p>Which of course means that the captions have to convey how Mysterious the sounds are.<\/p>\r\n<p>Fortunately, the captioners were up to the task.<\/p>\r\n<p>Below is a list of about thirty captions describing music and sound effects, all from the first episode of the series. It\u2019s entirely possible that I missed some, but among the ones I wrote down, there are no exact duplicates. That\u2019s pretty impressive, especially given that if I had been writing the captions, they probably all would have said \u201c[Mysterious Warbling].\u201d<\/p>\r\n<hr width=\"25%\" \/>\r\n<ul>\r\n  <li>[anxious music continues]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[audio warbles disconcertingly]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[delicate, mysterious music continues]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[dissonant music warbles]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[eerie audio ends abruptly]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[eerie, asynchronous laughter]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[enigmatic synth chords reverberate]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[faint, rapid musical notes flitting]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[furtive chattering]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[haunting vocalizations intensify]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[jarring stinger]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[low, menacing chords]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[low, unsettling brass notes play]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[metal groaning ominously]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[music warbles dissonantly]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[ominous drumbeat plays]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[ominous industrial synth music plays]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[ominous music swells]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[ominous synth music quavers]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[ship\u2019s horn blares]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[staccato audio glitches]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[staticky, cacophonous music plays]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[synth chords drone]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[tense percussive music plays]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[tense synth music]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[ticker stops abruptly]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[unnerving synch music playing]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[unsettling drumbeat]<\/li>\r\n  <li>[unsettling, mysterious music plays]<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr width=\"25%\" \/>\r\n<p>In addition to all that, there was at least one instance of Mysterious Warbling that they neglected to describe for a while after it started.
