A quick note before the debate begins: given that most of the undecided voters don’t have any idea—I mean any idea—what is actually going on in Iraq, and given that the fundamental question of this election really is whether the situation is what Our Only President claims it is or what Senator Kerry claims it is, how can Senator Kerry give the bad news and win the confidence of the country?
I mean, if what I am hearing about Iraq is true, and I see no reason to think it isn’t, we’re in Lebanon again, but worse. We’re still bombing Baghdad (yes, if somebody were bombing, say, Allston, they would be bombing Boston). That’s just one example, and I don’t even follow the news.
So, Gentle Readers, that’s what I am looking for. Not what the plans are, really, since (a) nobody knows, and (2) nothing either currently plans will ever be put in place. What universe they live in. And whether they can convince the voters that they live in the right one.
