Hayfoot, Strawfoot

This is, of course, a Very Bad Idea, but I can’t help thinking, when my Perfect Non-Reader insists on putting the left shoe on the right foot, that with all the flashing lights and spinning wheels on shoes these days, there should be a small transponder system for determining that the wearer has, in fact, put the shoes on the correct feet.

I suppose if they lit up (or worse, made an unpleasant and loud buzzer noise) when worn wrongways the average four-year-old would frequently wear them wrong just to make the shoes freak out. Some sort of happy music when worn correctly would be the way to go, I suppose. My initial thought, though, was that powerful electromagnets would lock the offending shoes together so that the pre-schooler would be unable to move.

Wham!—thud.

No, probably not a good idea.
