Your Humble Blogger is aware that his enthusiasm for political parties and political party politics is not shared by most Gentle Readers. I have similar enthusiasm for the closed party primary, which again I am aware that Gentle Readers do not, on the whole, enthuse about. You consider the poor plight of the independent voter, unwilling to commit to party registration and therefore unable to influence the narrowing of candidates. And I see that.
But when the poor independent voter is Senator Joseph Lieberman, Asshole-CT, well, I’m just saying. Point for my side of the argument, dontcha think?

Conceded, yes. And really, would you stop making your blog so damned engaging? How am I supposed to get any work done around here.
Well, that’s hardly Our Gracious Host’s fault, is it?
Oh, wait…

Point to you, indeed.
What swayed me toward prefering open primaries is not any concern for the poor independent voter, but an argument I heard from a Republican strategist, that open primaries can work to the party’s advantage in the general election, because it’s much easier to get people to do again something they’ve already done, e.g. cast a vote for a member of your party.
