Which the tail and which the dog?

Where's the outrage? OK, I know where the outrage is, and it's sitting in the heads of some of the readers of this very blog, but still.

The BBC is reporting that not only were we all misled about what actually happened to Private Lynch while she was a prisoner (which was a pretty brief moment of exaggeration, quickly exposed) but that the entire raid which rescued her was unnecessary and phony.

They report that (a) the Iraqi military has already left the area, so the daring raid was made in a totally undefended area, and the special forces knew that, and (2) the hospital had attempted to deliver Pvt. Lynch to the American forces in an ambulance two days before the raid actually took place.

I try not to get too outraged; it's bad for the grammar (and the italics). I know that the claims that Hussein's army were massing on the Saudi border in 1990 were bogus; I know that Clinton lied to us about a variety of things, not just his sex life. I even know that the Iraqi nurses who claim to have been witnesses may be the ones who are lying. But, doesn't this just make your jaw drop? Thank you,
