Your Humble Blogger picked up Quite Ugly One Morning (NY: Grove 1996), by Christopher Brookmyre, at the library, because the cover of Mr. Brookmyre’s most recent was pretty spiffy. Oh, and it won some award or other. Anyway, it was a pretty random choice, and it was a pretty good book, without being particularly memorable in any way. It’s Scottish enough, and violent enough, and quite dirty-minded without actually being dirty.
It’s somewhat old-fashioned in content, and not so new-fangled in style that a person can’t actually read it. It’s not a mystery, as such, in the sense that it’s not a puzzle or a who-dunnit, but a crime novel. Anyway, not a waste of time.
