Many of my Gentle Readers are aware of the Time Traveler Convention, which will have been this evening. It was being mentioned on several blogs and journals, mostly with a vaguely entertained and amused air. Your Humble Blogger’s immediate thought, however, will not have been previously noted, at least not by YHB.

Amal Dorai had begun to publicize the event with the tag line “Technically, you would only need one time traveler convention” (inspired by a Cat and Girl comic), but without having checked to see if there was already a Time Traveler Convention in this same space-time continuum. This is, was, and will be just plain rude. Not, of course, that tonight’s shindig is creating what the timebound might call a conflict, as if a time traveler has to have been deciding which of two events to attend. No, the problem is that if, as I am suspecting, there will have already been a Time Travelers Convention, not only is this one superfluous (as they admit), but it’s insulting and hostile. Particularly, of course, if their tag line “Technically, you would only need one time traveler convention” was to have been used at the other one. And, of course, even more particularly if the other one had been stealing the tag line “Technically, you would only need one time traveler convention” from this one.

The Time Traveler who will have later been already being at the other , later, convention (which, for the sake of clarity, I will call Convention 1) will afterwards have to have earlier decided whether to have given insult to the organizers by having earlier been later attending the other, earlier, convention (which, for the sake of clarity, I will call Convention A). Depending on the clout of the organizers of Convention 1 (who may, of course, also be the organizers of Convention A, but at a different point in their careers), it’s possible that the Time Traveler may face social retribution; in fact, I could easily have imagined that a Time Traveler who has attended both events may find himself not having been invited to either, and will possibly get turned away at the door. Many of them won’t ever do it, and others will not have ever have done it. The entire structure of space-time may well collapse, and in fact may have already collapsed.

And all for a minor contretemps which could have been being so easily being haven been will avoid being, simply by checking the calendar first, or earlier. Oh, and with any luck, I will have been being back to blogging at a more usual rate this week.
