Book Report: Fire Sale

OK, and here’s the weird thing about recording all the books Your Humble Blogger reads. Somehow, it had got into my mind that the Sara Paretsky books had been getting steadily worse and worse, and that the last had been the most unreadable. So I actually picked up Fire Sale from the new book shelf with a little trepidation, prepared to have a Bad Reading Experience. Then, when I enjoyed it a lot, I started to prepare this Book Report, telling all you Gentle Readers how this one was a return to form, and if you had given up on V.I. three books ago, you should really give this one a try. In particular, I was going to point out how the accretion of minor characters that had plagued the last few was Not An Issue in this one; Conrad is in it, and Mr. Contreras, but neither of them hog several chapters with non-plot conversations, and Lotte and Murray and Sal hardly appear at all.

And then, in actually getting this note down on bytes, I looked up the note I had written on Blacklist. Oh. Er, ah. Well, and um... You see ... Look, I liked Fire Sale. OK?
