Looking-Glass World

It’s at times like this that I miss the Medium Lobster. Who else is going to explain it all to me?

I mean, Our Only President—still the only one we’ve got—has just given us a birthday present of chained captives, who, it turns out, have been not-tortured for years in the not-secret not-prisons (which I believe it’s still treasonous to discuss) so they would not-give us not-intelligence on not-plots to use not-water bottles to not-explode not-planes, so that we can not-try them in not-courts that don’t exist.

And, that, Gentle Readers, is why we’re in Iraq.

Thanks for summing that up, so succinctly for me. Now I miss the Medium Lobster without knowing (for instance) what the hell the Medium Lobster even IS.

you know, today (after looking up the medium lobster) i found a RAND study on marijuana as gateway drug (they decided it wasn’t) that offered another explanation for why we’re in iraq. “then, is there any particular reason we shouldn’t legalize pot, since it is neither dangerous nor diabolical?” they asked themselves. and they answered: “yes. if we change our outrageously overstated position on pot, it will undermine the credibility of our equally dire positions on harder drugs.” i kid not. never mind that people already know how incredibly f***ing dangerous the harder stuff is.

Although, that said, the fact that people know how dangerous the harder stuff (such as alcohol) is doesn’t prevent them from using it and killing themselves and others.

THAT said, the war on drugs, like the war on terror, is basically a ploy by the military-industrial complex to self-perpetuate in the absence of any actual, say, enemy you can point to and say “that guy’s the enemy.”

That Soviet Union sure was useful. It would be nice if China weren’t tending towards reform, then we could point the cannon at them…

But, happily, the Bush and bin Laden families decided that sacrificing Osama was a small price to pay for their continued prosperity. Equally happily, no one seems to be able to find him, so perhaps he’ll remain a bogey-man “in Pakistan” where “he’s hiding,” and we can go on fearing “al Qaeda” for the next decade or so.

That thought gives me a peaceful feeling inside. Where’d you put that bong, dude?

    *sigh*

Of course, none of my talk is based on fact. Taxes and tags not included. Your mileage may vary.

Also, when you vote Democrat in a couple months, please keep in mind that none of THEM will end “the war on terror” any more than they ended “the war on drugs.”

    Fucking spineless cretins.

    Your mileage may vary.

Oh, nonsense, Mr. Rosenbaum, our government would never take American citizens to … oh, right. That’s our stated policy.

Ah, well. Sometimes, Mr. Hulan’s consipiracy to commit profanity is the only thing that makes sense.

    Thanks,

I stopped laughing so I wouldn’t cry. The only thing left to do is yell a lot. Maybe if I smell like cheap wine and quit bathing, they’ll let me get away with it…

i remembered something else, from november last year, on the daily show

CORDRY [reporting on status of iraq war]
getting us out of iraq is going to require tremendous misleadership … and the white house feels only they can come up with the right “irrationale” for withdrawal.

    STEWART
why would a withdrawal of troops need to be under false pretenses?

CORDRY: if we were wrong about why we went in, we have to be wrong about why we’re leaving. otherwise … it sends the message: america lacks the will to remain incorrect.
