Your Humble Blogger should probably admit it. The only reason I picked up The Day of the Triffids at the local library was because I had already picked up The Night of the Triffids, and figured I should read them in order. This book, by Simon Clark, an evidently fairly well-known horror writer of whom YHB was previously unaware, is a sequel, set twenty-five years after the events in Mr. Wyndham’s book. Does it seem like a bad idea? Yes, it seems like a bad idea. Is it, therefore, a bad book? No, it’s actually quite a good book.
YHB was impressed by how Mr. Clark managed both to keep the tone and feel of the original and to put together an altogether new book. Also, you know, sixty-foot-high aquatic triffids. That spit poison and kill.
