It’s only been a month since I read His Majesty’s Dragon, and already there have been several times when I asked myself why don’t we have a copy of Throne of Jade? Well, and I remembered to look for it at the library, but it turned out that they didn’t have a copy on the shelf.
Do you remember, Gentle Reader, about the newly refurbished Main Branch of my local library? Well, part of the refurbishosity was paid for by the commercial and residential development in the area, part of which development is a large Barnes and Noble next door to the library. I suspect they go in and hide the books that people want, so they can sell them next door. OK, maybe not. Still. They are using their cleverness for evil. And they’re using my seven bucks for evil now, too, I bet.
Well, not all the seven bucks. They’re part of it goes to Random House, and I suspect they’re using it that part for evil. I mean, it stands to reason. Then there’s the part that goes to the truckers who ship the book, although they probably just hand that money over to the gas companies, so there you are. Evil. Seriously, is it possible that any of the independent truckers are even breaking even this year? Or the small five-truck companies? You know there are millions of them. Not all of them are evil, but as I say, it’s not like they’re keeping any of the money. I suppose the good news is that Naomi Novik gets a dime or two out of the transaction. Don’t use it for evil, Ms. Novik! Use my ten cents for good!
