In case any of you see that polls show vaccine _mandates_ are unpopular but vaccine _requirements_ are popular, here are the numbers:

Do you believe K-12 schools should be allowed to mandate vaccines for their students? 37% yes, 46% no

Do you believe parents should be required to have their children vaccinated against […] COVID-19? 48% yes, 37% no

I figure that’s an evenly split 37+37=74% who answered the same way, not to mention 15% who consistently didn’t answer either way, for 89% consistency.

So if someone says that “people” have very different opinions about what is mandatory and what is required, remember that nine out of ten people do not, in fact, have a different opinion, and that it is comparatively few people who respond differently to the differently worded question.

(Yes, they aren’t exactly asking the same people, and yes there were a bunch of clues in each case about what the response “should” be, all of which as far as I’m concerned add to my point that most people do not change their minds about vaccine mandates when they are called requirements.)
