So. The library book sale. This is a particularly good sale, to benefit the public library in the small town I lived in for a year. They get a ton of books, and they sell them every weekend day it doesn’t rain between Memorial Day and Columbus Day. Lots of books, largely in good shape, mostly pretty cheap.
I came across a copy of His Majesty’s Dragon. I had read other people’s copies of that book, and then bought the second one and the third one, so I figured I would want to put this one next to those on the shelf, all nice and tidy. It had only been a few months since I read it, and I read two more by Ms. Novik, and had decided to take a breather before picking up the fourth one. I seem not to have logged the third one; perhaps I should phony up a note and stick it in the early summer. Who would know? And it would add in the totals for the year. Hm.
Anyway, once I picked up the first one with no intention of actually rereading it again at this time, I did reread it. And enjoyed it. I wasn’t altogether sure I would, but it works not only as an introduction to the world but as an adventure story. The battle stuff is great. The navy stuff is fantastic. And the dragon stuff is fun, too.
