So, YHB read and enjoyed Once upon a Marigold without particularly wanting a sequel, or for that matter seeking out anything else by Jean Ferris. As it happens the book came up in a discussion of what to read to the Perfect Non-Reader as a bedtime book (we chose The Pushcart War instead this time), so when I happened to see Twice Upon a Marigold on the library shelf, well, home it came. And it was a good read, pleasant, not (I think) as good as the first, nor ultimately at all necessary, but not particularly irritating or even disappointing, either.
I’m particularly happy that my local library, which is the main branch for the town, now has a New Books area in the Teen Room. I’m less keen about the Teen Room in general, as it is in a different part of the library from my usual path, and I often forget to go there, but at least when I do go, I can easily grab two or three things that catch my eye. Last week it was three things, all sequels to books I had enjoyed. So that’s all right, too.
