Book Report: The Silent Gondoliers

After Despereaux, I picked The Silent Gondoliers as the next Bedtime Book for my Perfect Non-Reader. She liked it OK, but not all that much.

It’s awfully tempting to read her the Good Parts Version of The Princess Bride. My Gracious Host, I believe, read the Bride aloud in parts over a semester or two in college, and it seemed to work quite well. It feels a bit dishonest not to read the whole book, but it isn’t actually dishonest really, in any way I can defend. And I don’t want to read her the Goldman Bits, for a variety of reasons, not least that they are not conducive to getting to bed. So there’s that.

On the other hand: fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles…
