How many times has Your Humble Blogger read The Hobbit (New York: Ballantine 1973)? How many roses are sprinkled with dew?
I read it the first time in the day or two before the Rankin/Bass version was televised, so I would have just turned eight, more or less. I may well have read it only once a year since then, but that would be the lower limit. At a guess, then, thirty times. I won't say I've enjoyed it more each time, but I don't think I've ever started it and not enjoyed finishing it.
It’s a marvelous book, relaxing, captivating, and rich. It’s a marvelous story, told marvelously well. And every now and then, I go back and marvel at it, and in it.
