Auden on Tolkien
The New York Times has put up a set of articles about LotR, including WH Auden's original reviews of Fellowship (1954) and (further down the page) Return of the King (1956). (The latter is particularly interesting; discusses the tension between sf (or rather, the Heroic Quest) and Literature, as described by someone from the literary side of the fence who nonetheless really likes Tolkien.) No registration/password needed; I think the Times sees this as good advertising (or possibly it's even been paid for by the movie people, dunno).
