Clean clean

PowerBook problem's persisted for months; been meaning to dig up extended warranty for it. They told me when I bought the machine that the piece of paper with the warranty info on it was the only record of the warranty, and thus that I couldn't get repairs done (after the initial 1-year Apple warranty expired) without it; seemed unlikely, but that's what they said. So of course I put it in a safe place: somewhere in one of the huge piles of paper in my apartment.

Today I celebrated the beginning of a week off work by gathering together said huge piles of paper (at least the ones in my room) and starting to sort through 'em. Finding lots of stuff to throw out, lots of stuff to sort further and file. (I have two filing cabinets, one full and one empty; if I just put stuff directly into the cabinets when done with it, it would be lots easier for me to find things when I need 'em.)

And there, in the middle of a stack of receipts for computer equipment, was the warranty paper. Also the receipt for the computer itself, which contains its serial number, which is a good thing because the serial number on the case has worn off over the years. (And the software-accessible copy of it got wiped somehow, probably when I zapped my PRAM at some point.)

So I called the number on the warranty sheet; I figured since it's Saturday there was no chance they would answer, but in fact they did, and they're sending a box for me to send them the computer in. Good-oh. And it turns out that the warranty's good for another year, not expiring on the 31st as I'd thought, and it turns out I don't need the actual paper, just the ID number on it.

To celebrate, I'm gonna keep sorting papers even though I no longer have to. : )
