Historical perspective
Article in the San Francisco Chronicle gives a historical overview of copyright law, in light of the new Consumer Broadband and Digital Television Promotion Act; some interesting stuff I hadn't known before, including the fact that the first US copyright law (in 1790) protected "only maps, charts and books." There's a lot that I take for granted as just The Way Things Are that's actually a relatively recent development.
