Close call
Huh. Looks like a small asteroid came awfully close to hitting Earth last week, and we didn't even know it was there 'til three days later.
Of course, "awfully close" is relative. It was 120,000 km away, and in some sense talking about counterfactuals in this sort of thing is silly; if it doesn't actually hit, it doesn't much matter how close it gets. Not like there's a what-if scenario in which some small factor changes whether it hits or not. But still, it was inside the moon's orbit; that seems close.
And it was too small to do really world-shattering damage; we're not talking an Armageddon-type scenario. But still, the article says it would've been equivalent to "the largest H-bombs" in amount of damage it did, had it hit.
Kinda scary.
