Good old Jefferson
There's plenty to disagree with Jefferson about. But I quite like this quotation from him, which I've seen before but easily forget:
"[I]t does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg."
Of course, I certainly don't mean this as a final authority; if he'd said the opposite, I would disagree with him, rather than saying "Jefferson said it so it must be right." But it's nice to see a nice pithy line from a well-respected authority that sums up an issue so well.
Were Jefferson alive today, no doubt, GWB would deride him as an elitist intellectual. Oh, well.
