Missing music
The most frustrating thing is that I'm sure they're around here somewhere.
Or maybe the most frustrating thing is that the ones that are missing are mostly among my favorite CDs.
Or possibly it's that I could have MP3ized them all before I took them to Utah, but didn't take the time.
Or maybe it's that I did put them all into MP3 format once; in fact, they were among the first CDs I did that with. But I lost many of the songs on them when the hard drive on the old computer went bad, and I hadn't bothered to re-import them before I went to Utah.
I took maybe a dozen CDs with me, in a little square CD binder, when I went to Utah at the beginning of May, hoping that the car we rented would have a CD player. As it turned out, it did, and we listened to many of those CDs on the way to and from Bryce and Zion. But the last time I'm absolutely certain I had them was in the car on the way back. I think I brought them in from the car, but it's conceivable that I left them in the glove compartment. But the car rental place has looked in all of the possible places that the CD binder would've ended up if it were handed in to them, and it's not in any of those places.
And if I'd left it at Mary Anne's, it would've turned up by now, when she unpacked if nothing else.
Which means that it's fairly likely that I brought the discs home with me, took the binder out of my duffel bag, put it down in some safe place, and immediately forgot where that place was. (Chances are reasonably good that the discs were sitting out in plain sight for a couple weeks, until the day I had to clean the apt for a workshop meeting.)
And it's been nearly two months since I got back from Utah, and there's been no sign of them. Every few days or so I think of another place they might be, or I try one of the places I've already tried, and there's still no sign of them.
I think only one of them is actually irreplaceable. But at least a couple will be a big pain to find other copies of. And I hate to go out and buy new copies if the ones I already have are going to turn up someplace obvious as soon as I manage to do a thorough housecleaning.
But then, the likelihood of my doing a thorough housecleaning is pretty low. So I should probably just give up.
Sigh.
