Total number of Hugo ballots

To quote the flyer from the con, "ConJosé received 924 valid ballots for the awards." Yes, that's right, only 924 people voted on the Hugos this year. Three-quarters of those voted online, so the electronic version of the ballot is very popular, but having an online version of the ballot is not, as some had hoped, causing more people than usual to vote. (As you can see from the stats in "Hugo Voting: Let's Look at the Record (Again)," 924 is toward the high end of the normal range, but by no means a record high.)

The stats in that article only go to 1999. Chicon 2000 received 1071 valid ballots, including 475 submitted electronically. In 2001, the Millennium PhilCon received 1050 valid ballots, according to Ansible; I can't find an official source for that number, but it looks plausible (being a little more than the number who voted in the Dramatic Presentation category that year).

So though there were more voters this year than in 1997 through 1999, there were fewer than in the past two years.
