Another minor milestone

Strange Horizons received our 3000th fiction submission on 4/8/2002, as noted at the time.

We received our 4000th sometime in the past week. It's hard to know exactly when, because (a) we're in the process of switching from counting a requested revision as the same story to counting it as a new story, and (b) people like that Rosenbaum guy do things like sending us a piece that we publish in 12 parts, making it difficult to know whether to count it as 1 story or 12. (For most purposes, we count it as 1, but the database makes it hard to count it as 1 when counting number of total submissions.)

So depending on how you count, the 4000th submission may've arrived at any of various times in the past week.

Which means we've received almost 1000 submissions in the past five months (about 200/month), which means the average submission volume continues to rise slowly but steadily.

Huh—Interzone says they get about 200 submissions a month (though those guidelines may've been written a while back, I dunno). Not that we're particularly like them, but interesting (in a sort of Harper's-Index way, where juxtaposed numbers appear to have some Deeper Significance even if you can't quite figure out what that might be) to see the numbers match up.
