Long day
Spent the morning reading subs and doing miscellaneous administrivia. Oh, and reading a couple stories in Starlight 1, which has been sitting on my shelf unread for ages. Swanwick's "The Dead" is thoroughly unpleasant but very well-done. Have also finally started reading Ginu Kamani's Junglee Girl.
Afternoon, drove up to Berkeley for a workshop meeting, in which we discussed all sorts of issues we're currently trying to resolve, regarding membership and the possibility of merging with another group and so forth.
Afterward, I stopped by Good Vibrations in Berkeley. I was startled to see that in one of their bookcases of erotica, I had stories in two different books. (To put it another way, both of my published erotica stories were on the same bookcase.) This is not that big a deal; I'm just not yet used to seeing books containing my writing on store shelves.
(I was amused at how many of the books on that bookcase had stories by Mary Anne in them. I didn't count, but it seemed like a lot.)
I picked up a copy of Best Bisexual Erotica 2 and, um, some other stuff. (Sorry not to shop at Blowfish, Heather, but I wanted to touch some stuff before buying it.) I admit to a little uncertainty about Best Bi Erotica 2; I was a little unsatisfied with the first volume's heavy focus on multi-person encounters, which seemed to me to perpetuate the stereotype that bi people are incapable of monogamy. (I have absolutely nothing against multi-person sex scenes, mind you; I'd just like to see that be one among several foci.) I certainly understand that it's harder to prove that a monogamous character is bi, but I think there are plenty of ways it can be done. But the editors were explicitly looking for multi-person and poly stuff, which of course is their prerogative. And hey, I liked it enough to buy volume 2.
Then I headed toward home, but decided to stop in Palo Alto to buy Mac OS X 10.2 and fondle the latest iPods (the old-style turning wheel is, I have to say, more tactilely satisfying than the new trackpad-style non-turning wheel-shaped touch surface), and pick up chicken gyros wrapped in pita for dinner.
And now it's time to round out the day with some more reading. Despite all of the above, I sorta feel like I haven't gotten much done today, and it feels too early to be nearly 10:30. Sigh.
