PSA: No backups at Pair
Anyone who has an account hosted at Pair.com, be warned: they do make backups, but they won't restore your data from backup unless it was their mistake that caused the erasure.
They will, however, string you along with vague comments about the way their backup system works for most of 24 hours before telling you this. Note that information about backups isn't given anywhere in their customer-accessible documentation, and that tech support people will, when asked, inform you that they do make backups.
Grr.
I recognize that this is my own damn fault. I made the mistake, I wiped the data. And it's not disastrous; nothing essential got lost, and I do have my own (month-old) backup. But I have to say that Pair tech support (usually pretty good) has really fallen down on the job on this; poor communication, poor understanding of their own systems and policies, and, honestly, a stupid backup system.
(Instead of rotating backups like any other company in the world, when they create a new backup they overwrite the only existing copy of the previous backup. And sheesh, would it really kill them to restore data for a customer who's made a mistake? Or to provide easy tools to let customers set up automated regular backups without having to use cron?)
Anyway. Rant aside, my point is: if you have a Pair account and you don't have your data backed up, you should back up your data.
