Voting
The night of the last election, back in March, my car died as I pulled out of my driveway to go vote. I didn't know exactly where the voting place was, but I thought it was at least a 20-minute walk away, and the polls were only open for 15 more minutes, so I gave up.
Tonight I spent an hour and a half cramming for the election, made decisions on maybe 3/4 of the positions and ballot measures, and drove straight to the polling place from work rather than stopping at home first. Taking no chances about car not starting. But it turns out that the polling place is all of two blocks from my apartment.
That's not where it was two years ago, so I'm not sure whether that's where it was in March. Not worth trying to find out; I'll only feel even dumber if it was. But I ought to have at least checked MapQuest or something.
Anyway, pleased to have discharged some portion of my civic responsibility, for whatever that's worth. Next time I really hope to spend a few hours going over the candidates and measures with someone who knows something about them, a few days ahead of time.
