Prepositional calculus

A few years back, someone pointed out to me that something I'd written explained (unintentionally) the difference between the phrases coming out, going out, and putting out.

More recently, it occurred to me that there are all sorts of interesting stories you could tell if you were trying to teach use of English prepositions to people who already knew about sex. Like Sesame Street for grownups. There's come over (to my place) and go down, and of course a bit of the old in-and-out.

I mentioned this to Kam, and she pointed out that suggesting sex by these means might be known as "prepositioning."

(And btw, I think it's kinda odd that we've got an entire class of words that are named after where they appear in a sentence—pre-position. Particularly interesting given that those are the words that describe (among other things) spatial relationships between nouns.)

(Now everything is sounding like a double entendre. "position"? "relationships"? Perhaps I'd better stop while I'm ahead.)
