Instant art, crazy artists

Those people who do National Novel-Writing Month, aka NaNoWriMo? Pikers. Sure, they can write a novel in a month—but can they create a movie in 48 hours, from inception to completion? Huh? Can they?

And then, after doing that once, would they be crazy enough to do it again?

Well, okay, so the second one (currently in progress) isn't on quite such an insane schedule; it looks like they're gonna take a whole two weeks from inception to completion. Perhaps they're getting lazy.

The project page for the first movie is still archived online; you can see the log running down the right-hand column, showing who was doing what when during the making of the movie. That log contains a helpful description of the plot down near the very bottom:

The meta script: Two competing demi gods each enlist a suicidal "prophet" to deliver their message to the furthest reaches of the galaxy in order to achieve full god status.

My friend Mykle plays one of the "prophets"—a suicidal hit man named Helmut. Looks like he'll be a featured character in the second movie as well.

I was going to go on about art, and the creation thereof, and what it does or doesn't take to be an artist, and various friends' influences on my thinking about this over the years, and the astonishing creativity of some people, but I think instead I'll go try to get some editing done before I go to sleep.
