Cleanliness is next

Thanks to the astonishing efforts of Kam, my kitchen is now clean. I'm very pleased. Thank you, Kam!

Other things we accomplished today included taking various bits of computer equipment to the computer recycling center, taking a bunch of stuff to Goodwill that's been lying on my living room floor for weeks or months (plus some other things that've been lying around elsewhere; Kam's good at asking whether I really have any need to keep various items), taking out a bunch of recycling stuff that's been piling up, doing laundry, and stopping by the comic shop to pick up comics.

Sadly, I only got about two-thirds of the way through the big stacks of paper on my kitchen table: only filled one grocery sack with recyclable paper. Now there's one smallish stack of paid bills, to be filed; one smallish stack of papers to be dealt with (requests from charities, dentist bills, insurance renewal forms, etc); and two slightly larger stacks of papers still to be sorted.

All this paper means that I didn't accomplish my other goal for the day, which come to think of it I should've done instead of sorting papers: I was gonna move everything out of the kitchen so the floor could be fixed, something I've been delaying doing for I'm embarrassed to say how long. Perhaps I'll start on that tonight.

Of course, there's still the rest of the apartment. Earlier this week I moved some boxes around and stacked some papers, so that my room can actually be traversed without stepping on the bed, something that hasn't been true for a while; I also got a start on the dishes and neatened up the living room and kitchen a little. (Which is not in any way to devalue Kam's herculean efforts in working on the kitchen today, of course; I only got things from Augean Stables level (huh, I always thought that was Aegean Stables; live and learn) to, um, somewhat neatened-up Augean Stables level.)

Where was I? Right, okay, the point is that it's all a lot better than it was a week ago, but there's still a bunch of stuff on the floor, and stacks of paper everywhere, and everything could use a good vacuuming and dusting and sweeping and mopping and so forth. But it's a start.

In entirely unrelated news, I continue to be pleased at how many of the submissions we're getting these days start off with the author/title/email/word-count info asked for in our new guidelines; it really does save me time and energy as I enter them into the database. And it gives a quick indication up top of whether the author's read the new guidelines. : )
