Fun with pictographs
The Net finds its own uses for things. For example, given a set of safety-instructions pictographs like the ones at Dept. of Homeland Security, people will create funny captions. I particularly like the one with the car, near the bottom of the list.
Note that LJ will tell you there are multiple pages to this entry; it actually means there are multiple pages of comments, most of which say "OMFG that is so hilarious."
By the way, there seems to be little agreement on the web about what the actual cyberpunk phrase was that I paraphrased above. (Apparently written by Gibson and quoted by Sterling, but I don't own Mirrorshades so I can't check. I know, I know, what kind of cyberpunk am I?) The most common version is "the street finds its own uses for things," but there are dozens of variations. Somehow I've been quoting it as "the street finds its own uses for technology" for years now. I guess the Net finds its own uses for slogans, too.
