More songs about rocket ships
Pete Seeger's Children's Concert at Town Hall (1963) had a bunch of transportation-related songs, at the end of which he said:
Well, now, let's see, we started off with horses, we went to canal boats, went to railroads, went to automobiles.... I suppose really we should have some songs about rocket ships. But you know, they aren't really written yet; I guess you're gonna have to write 'em.
And thus was born a generation of filkers.
Okay, I assume most filkers never heard that remark. But it does seem apropos.
That made me curious about when Consonance (the Bay Area filk convention) was happening this year. Turns out it was last weekend. Ah, well, I couldn't really have gone anyway.
I seem to have fallen completely out of touch with the world of filk again; I don't think I was even in the same building with any filk event at WorldCon. Oh, well, I'm sure I'll drift back to it at some point.
