Gazebo

As I drifted slowly into semi-consciousness this morning, I had a sudden thought: could it possibly be the case that some readers of my journal might not be familiar with "The Tale of Eric and the Dread Gazebo"? Something, I thought, must be done. Thus, this entry.

(Um, I see that the story itself doesn't actually mention the term "roleplaying." Just in case: in this context, the word "game" means "roleplaying game.")

I love that story. It’s a great illustration of the necessity of expanding your vocabulary.

Well, ok, and it’s funny, too.

Plus “gazebo” is such a fun word to say!

I wish I could find my copy of a routine I heard on Dr. Demento many, many years ago that was based on fun-sounding words (“Would you say it was a bulbous bouffant?”) If anyone knows who did it, e me.

I actually had something similar happen at a game. We ran into some “street urchins” in a city and a friend of mine, a grad student in Chemistry at Cornell, attacked the “monsters.” So the gazebo story has always rung a little too true for me. 🙂

Rachel: It’s called “Bulbous Bouffant,” it’s by the Vestibules, and it can now be found on Dr. Demento’s 30th Anniversary Collection.
