Soundproofing links

Huh—some quick Googling turns up some interesting-looking pages:

  • Soundproofing 101, which gives useful information for people who can tear their walls down or who are building soundproof studios, but not so much for soundproofing a bedroom window in a rented apartment. But they linked to:
  • Soundproof Windows, which supplies custom-made windows that apparently fit inside regular windows and do serious sound abatement, while also cutting down on UV. I suspect this is not so good, though, for a window that's 6' wide and 3' high, and the costs are relatively high.
  • However, I also found Super Soundproofing, which sells all sorts of stuff that looks like it'll do just what I need, assuming the window size doesn't turn out to be a problem. I'll call them tomorrow.

ISAAAP (I Sure Ain’t An Acoustic Physicist), but I’m having trouble figuring out what the “soundproof windows” do besides adding an extra air layer. Though I suppose it’s possible that the double-pane laminated safety glass might not conduct sound as well as a single pane.
