Turning red
The next phase in the master hair plan was determined a couple weeks ago when I went to the drugstore looking for purple hair dye, figuring I might as well try some outré colors while my hair's still blond, and found that other than about a hundred shades of brown, and a few shades of blond, that particular drugstore's only color option was red.
Okay, plus the spray-on temporary blue, but I can use that anytime, even after I go back to brown.
So I got the red, and have been waiting for a good time to use it, and finally did this morning. There'll be pictures eventually, most likely.
I've been getting the same kind of dubious looks and comments about the red today from friends that my co-workers have mostly given me about the blond, which leads me to believe it's not going over so well. Alas. It's a pretty bright red; I think it looks more or less like a new-penny copper color, but others have said it looks orange or several other colors. Apparently it doesn't look very natural, which on the one hand is too bad (because people were finally saying the blond did look natural), but on the other hand it's not like the originally planned purple would've looked natural. So I think that's okay.
The main idea at this point is just to have a color where the dark brown roots (about an inch long by now) don't stand out quite so much as they grow back in over the next four weeks or so, at which point I'll probably just get it cut really short and start over with natural color. (Though of course the ends will then be brown-plus-red.)
Or maybe I'll get bored with the whole experiment sooner and will buy one of those brown dyes and use it. We'll see.
