Shortest day, longest night

I have a vague notion that there's a really nice Winter Solstice poem somewhere in the back of my head, but I just checked and it's not in The Dark Is Rising, and I don't know where else it might be, and I'm totally exhausted (no staying up all night for me), so I'll leave you with this:

Happy Solstice!

(The exact time of the solstice, according to the US Naval Observatory, was 2:04 a.m. EST, which was 11:04 p.m. here, about an hour and a half ago.)

May your days grow brighter and your nights warmer.

I’m not sure whether I was or not, but it’s certainly apt; thank you for the pointer. I like it a lot. Especially this:

As promise wakens in the sleeping land:
    They carol, feast, give thanks,
    And dearly love their friends,
    And hope for peace.
