Social

It's been a busy week. Last weekend (in which category I include Friday, for convenience), there was lunch and Return of the King with co-workers, buying a bed, lunch with Mary Anne and Kate and Becca and Gavin, a small holiday dinner party, Mary Anne's cookbook-launch party (for which we got the house remarkably presentable), and winter solstice. This week I've been off work, but still busy: shopping with M on Monday (went to Ikea and bought a bookcase, among other things), hung out with Arthur on Tuesday (mostly talking about Zeppelins, and we both wrote some for our respective Zeppelin stories), saw Mykle and Gesine (but not Phine) for a little while in the early evening, hung out with Kam at various times in between her various trips out of town. Went to see Elf with Beth on Wednesday (my second time at the Grand Lake Theatre in as many weeks)—I thought the first half was kinda weak, but the second half worked reasonably well, and I quite liked the duet of "Baby, It's Cold Outside." Dinner with Susan and Matt and Tim and Heather and Kelli that evening.

Most of Xmas day at home recovering from so much socializing (I'm an introvert, honest! This stuff is exhausting!), doing miscellaneous computer stuff mostly. Wandered by the Evanses' place in the middle of their Xmas dinner, hung out with them for a while, then off to my sister-in-law's parents' place for pinochle for a couple hours, then home again, laden down with desserts. I have twelve kinds of curry left over from Mary Anne's party, and now I have about eight kinds of desserts too.

Friday I was going to sit at home and be a hermit but ended up driving M and Kevin down to Los Gatos, with a stop at Kate and Becca's Boxing Day party. I hermited after that, though—did some satisfying but invisible work on the journal code to fix a longtime usability issue regarding time zones, poked around in the iTunes Music Store for a while, and then (as previously noted) did Penrose tiles with Kam late into the night.

And this morning I'm off to the Exploratorium with Nao and Stephen.

Somehow I didn't manage to do any of the non-social things I intended to do this week, notably a bunch of magazine stuff. Ah, well, maybe next week when I'm not on vacation I'll have more time.

Mmm, Los Gatos. If you ever get a chance to go to the La Fondue there, I highly recommend it. Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere… I so need to get back to the Bay Area for a weekend.
